uPVC Windows North East — NE & C Windows and Doors manufacture, supply and install premium uPVC windows across the North East from our factory in Washington, Tyne and Wear. Every uPVC window we fit is built for energy efficiency, long-term durability and excellent value, with high-security multi-point locking and A-rated double glazing fitted as standard.
uPVC is the most popular window material in UK homes for good reason — it’s affordable, low-maintenance, naturally insulating, and available in a huge range of colours and finishes. Our uPVC windows are manufactured using market-leading VEKA German profile systems, giving you the same quality of frame used in premium new-build housing developments at a fraction of the imported cost.
We install uPVC windows throughout Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham, Gateshead, South Shields, Tynemouth, Washington, Chester-le-Street and across Northumberland. Because we manufacture locally, we offer shorter lead times, full quality control, and a lower carbon footprint than nationally-sourced alternatives. Call NE & C today for your free no-obligation quote, or arrange a home visit to see samples in person.
Whatever the style and age of your property, we have a uPVC window to match. All styles are made-to-measure and available in over 25 colours and woodgrain finishes.
Casement Windows
The most popular uPVC window style — versatile, secure and energy efficient. Casement windows are side-hung or top-hung and open outwards, suitable for almost any property type. See our dedicated casement windows page for full options.
Vertical Sliding Sash Windows
A modern uPVC alternative to traditional timber sash windows. Perfect for Victorian and Edwardian properties in Heaton, Jesmond and Gosforth where you want authentic period aesthetics with the energy efficiency of modern uPVC. More on our sash windows page.
Tilt and Turn Windows
Continental-style uPVC windows that tilt inwards for ventilation or fully turn for cleaning and emergency egress. Ideal for upper floors, apartments and properties where outside access is limited. See our tilt and turn page.
Flush Sash Windows
A contemporary uPVC window design where the sash sits flush within the frame for a clean, minimal aesthetic. Increasingly popular for modern new-builds and contemporary renovations across Newcastle and Sunderland.
Bay and Bow Windows
Multi-panel uPVC windows that project outwards from the property, creating extra interior space and panoramic views. Especially common on 1930s semis and Victorian bays across the North East — we can match the original profile and proportion.
Heritage uPVC Windows
Specialist uPVC profiles designed to replicate traditional timber windows for period and conservation-area properties. See our heritage windows range for full details.
All our uPVC windows can be paired with matching uPVC doors for a coordinated look across the front and rear of your home, or with a wider door range if you want to mix and match materials.
Modern uPVC windows are no longer just white. NE & C offer over 25 colour and finish options, including:
Classic Colours — White, cream and light grey — the most popular options for traditional homes and rental properties where neutral aesthetics matter.
Contemporary Greys — Anthracite grey, agate grey and silver — the most popular modern choices for new-builds and contemporary renovations. Black uPVC is also increasingly common.
Woodgrain Effects — Irish oak, rosewood, golden oak and Chartwell green woodgrain foils — realistic timber effect for period properties and conservation areas without the maintenance burden of real timber.
Dual Colour — Different colour inside and outside — for example anthracite grey externally with white internally, popular for keeping a bright internal aesthetic while having a bold external finish.

uPVC is the most popular and cost-effective window material, but it’s not the only option. Aluminium windows offer slimmer sightlines (more glass, less frame), greater strength for very large or oversized windows, and a more contemporary aesthetic — at a higher price point.
For a side-by-side comparison and our full aluminium range, see our aluminium windows North East page. Or, if you’d like to mix the two — for example, aluminium feature windows at the front of the house and uPVC for the rest — we can quote for both as part of the same project.
To explore the wider window range, including style-specific options like casement windows and sash windows, visit our main windows page.
How long do uPVC windows last?
A quality uPVC window installation will typically last 25–30 years or more. Modern uPVC profiles like the VEKA system we use are UV-stabilised and won’t yellow, warp or crack the way older uPVC sometimes did. The hardware — handles, hinges and locking mechanisms — may need replacing or servicing within that lifespan, but the frames themselves are built to last decades.
Are uPVC windows energy efficient?
Yes. All NE & C uPVC windows come with A-rated double glazing as standard, featuring argon gas filling and Low-E (low emissivity) glass coatings that reflect heat back into the room. Combined with the inherent insulating properties of multi-chambered uPVC profiles, modern uPVC windows can dramatically reduce heat loss and lower your energy bills compared with single-glazed or older double-glazed units.
What is the difference between uPVC and aluminium windows?
uPVC windows are more affordable, offer excellent thermal insulation, and come in a wide range of colours and woodgrain finishes — ideal for the majority of homes. Aluminium windows have slimmer sightlines (more glass, less frame), are stronger so they work for very large or oversized windows, and suit contemporary architectural styles. They typically cost more than uPVC. Both are A-rated for energy efficiency when correctly specified.
How much do uPVC windows cost in the North East?
uPVC window prices depend on size, style, colour, glass specification and number of openings. A standard casement window starts at the lower end of the market, while large bay windows, sash windows or fully foiled coloured units sit higher. Rather than quote a misleading “from” price, we offer a free no-obligation survey and detailed quote so you know exactly what your project will cost — with no hidden extras.
What colours are available for uPVC windows?
NE & C offer uPVC windows in over 25 colours and finishes, including white, cream, anthracite grey, agate grey, black, Irish oak, rosewood, golden oak and Chartwell green. You can also specify different colours inside and outside (for example anthracite externally and white internally). The colour is applied as a foil bonded to the frame, so it won’t peel, fade or flake.
Are uPVC windows secure?
Yes. All NE & C uPVC windows are fitted with high-security multi-point locking systems as standard, and the glass is internally beaded — meaning it can’t be popped out from the outside. Our windows can also be specified to PAS 24 security standards and Secured by Design accreditation, the UK Police preferred specification for security products.
Do uPVC windows need maintenance?
uPVC windows are essentially maintenance-free. Unlike timber windows, they never need sanding, painting or sealing. The frames just need an occasional wipe with warm soapy water. We recommend lightly oiling the hinges and locking mechanisms once a year to keep everything operating smoothly, but that’s the extent of the upkeep.
Do I need planning permission to replace my uPVC windows?
In most cases, replacing existing windows with uPVC windows of similar style and size falls under permitted development rights and does not require planning permission. However, planning permission or listed building consent may be needed if your property is in a conservation area or if it’s listed. As part of our free survey we’ll advise on any restrictions. For period properties in conservation areas, our heritage uPVC windows are often a sympathetic option.
